Methods and facilities for proper driving style training
Král, Jaroslav
Statistics on traffic accidents indicate that incorrect driving is rated as their main cause. Hazardous driving, primarily not respecting the safe distance behind a vehicle, belongs among most frequent causes of drivers´ accidents. Rear-end collisions are caused by a driver´s failure to estimate a proper distance while driving too close to the vehicle in front. The main reason for these accidents lies in disrespecting safe driving distances between vehicles under normal road-surface and also in adverse weather conditions. An opportunity rests in developing educational and training methodologies in driving schools. Training techniques should be improved to place a bigger emphasis on cognitive skills, including risk perception, hazard recognition, defensive driving and self-assessment. Practical training must approach real conditions, thus the schools should be equipped with simulators or specially adapted vehicles to simulate safe driving distances, sudden deceleration and other unexpected situations.
